Leadership Response to our Open Letter
As many of you know, in November 2024, we wrote to the Green Party leadership on behalf of all 1,500+ GWD signatories. Our letter detailed serious concerns about the systematic targeting of women speaking up for sex-based rights, including multiple suspensions, delayed appeals, and clear evidence of bias in disciplinary processes. (if you missed it you can catch up here ).
Leadership Response
After several weeks, we received a brief response from co-leaders Adrian and Carla. The entirety of their reply was:
“Thank you for your email. Please accept this response as confirmation that your email, sent on 28th November 2024, has been received by the leaders.
The leadership recognises the importance of our disciplinary processes following both the law and best practice. The Green Party’s Executive has recently initiated a review of the party’s disciplinary processes to ensure that they are operating as such. GPEx looks forward to receiving the results of this review and to working across governance bodies to ensure the party upholds the highest standards in our internal processes.”
Whilst we are glad that GPEW have finally acknowledged there are problems with the Party disciplinary system, this response falls significantly short of addressing our concerns. Most notably:
• Addresses only one of our five specific requests
• Provides no timeline for the review
• Offers no interim protection for affected members
• Ignores documented patterns of targeting women
• Makes no mention of the Queerphobia Guidance concerns
We are preparing a detailed response highlighting why immediate action is necessary. We’ll be sharing this shortly. Stay tuned for our comprehensive reply which includes documented case studies demonstrating systematic failures.
