We’re coming to Green Party Conference!

We have exciting news! Green Women's Declaration has been granted a stall for Green Party Conference in Bournemouth in October.

After months of uncertainty we're delighted to share this breakthrough. Support from our members, plus 1,600+ signatories to our Declaration and the incredible solidarity shown by 87 co-proposers for Motion A79 have made this possible. Together we demonstrated that there is significant appetite within The Party for honest discussion about women's rights.

The Strategic Significance

This stall represents far more than just a space at conference. The days of no debate are over - we now have a platform inside the Party Conference to engage members directly on women's rights issues.

We will operate as a professional lobby group - just like any other policy advocacy organisation. Single-sex provision will be presented as a mainstream policy position, bringing these crucial discussions where they belong - into the heart of conference, the supreme decision making body of The Party.

A79: Why Different Rules for Women's Rights?

You may already be aware that the Standing Orders Committee has ruled Motion A79 on Women’s Rights "Out of Order." The Party has insisted that the motion must go through an extended consultation process before it can be submitted. However, our analysis of this demand against Party regulations indicates serious procedural concerns.

Motion A79 doesn't create a whole new policy, as has been claimed - it consolidates existing women's rights policies distributed throughout Party policy including domestic violence support, workplace equality, single-sex hospital wards, support for EA2010 etc.  Clarifying these rights would give women equal prominence with other protected groups. Does The Party really think that is too much to ask? Are they really saying that it is NEW policy for women’s rights to be championed and defended?

We know that, historically, motions relating to other groups in the party have not required such a lengthy process, and The Party documentation does not give any authority to insist upon it. Somehow, different standards apply when women seek to advance sex-based rights.

Even worse - we’ve noticed that some time between 2020 - 2022 The Party removed "sex" from policy RR207 without any motion at all.  They can erase women's rights without process, but now claim women need extensive procedures to reinstate them.

We will not abandon this motion and are challenging these procedural inconsistencies. Meanwhile, this conference stall will give us a crucial opportunity to build momentum for A79 and educate members about why sex matters in policy making.

This is Our Moment

Although motion A79 has been ruled out of order, this is the first time we will have had a chance to legitimately campaign on sex-based rights within the conference arena. This is a key strategic moment for advancing women's rights within the Green Party.

As an external lobbying organisation, the conference stall doesn't come for free. We need your help to cover costs for stall rental, professional materials, and displays to explain our policies. Your support will enable us to make the most of this opportunity to reach Green Party members.

Solidarity and support from scientific material realists like you has already brought us so far - anything you can contribute will really help us make the most of this breakthrough.

Thank you for being part of this important campaign for women's rights.
