From the UK to the US: GWD Inspires the Democratic Women’s Declaration

When we launched the Green Women’s Declaration, we knew we were standing up for something that mattered far beyond the internal politics of one party. This month, we received confirmation of just how far our influence has reached.

Kara Dansky, the US author and women’s rights campaigner, dedicated her weekly FFS (Female Free Speech) Friday column to GWD, revealing that our work was one of the inspirations behind the launch of the Democratic Women’s Declaration in the United States.

We’re honoured AND delighted that women across the pond looked at what we were doing and said: we need this too.

Sadly it seems the pattern is the same on both sides of the Atlantic. Women within progressive, environmentalist and left-leaning parties are being told that defending sex-based rights is incompatible with their values. They are being silenced, sanctioned and excluded but by their own parties.

GWD has shown that it doesn’t have to be this way. You can be a committed environmentalist and defend the reality of biological sex. You can believe in social justice and insist that women’s rights are not negotiable. These positions are not in conflict and it is wrong to suggest otherwise.

We are proud to stand alongside women’s rights organisations around the world who share our commitment to science, fairness and the full participation of women in political life.
